Hayes named Allen Central girls’ basketball head coach

EASTERN – Jeremy Hayes has been named Allen Central High School girls’ basketball head coach. Hayes replaces Anthony Moore and will guide the Allen Central girls’ basketball program in its final season.

A standout player for the Allen Central High School boys’ basketball program, Hayes was under the guidance of legendary ACHS coach John Martin during his time as a player.

The Lady Rebels concluded he 2015-16 season 2-21 and ranked at the bottom of the 15th Region girls’ basketball standings. Betsy Layne ended Allen Central’s 2015-16 season, defeating the Lady Rebels 55-38 in the opening round of the 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

Returning to the sidelines following a lengthy layoff, Moore spent three seasons as Allen Central’s head coach.

Allen Central is scheduled to open the 2016-17 season at home versus former 58th District/Floyd County Conference rival Piarist School on Nov. 28. The Lady Rebels’ 2016-17 schedule will feature additional games versus Sheldon Clark, Betsy Layne, Lawrence County, South Floyd, Rose Hill Christian, Paintsville, Pike County Central, Fairview, Phelps, Riverside Christian, Prestonsburg, Shelby Valley, Magoffin County, Belfry, Johnson Central, June Buchanan, Phelps, Pikeville and Letcher County Central.

Allen Central is slated to meet longtime 58th District/Floyd County Conference foe Betsy Layne in the opening round of the 15th Region All “A” Classic at the East Kentucky Expo Center on Jan. 2, 2017.

The Lady Rebels will start preseason practice in mid-October.
