PRESTONSBURG – After advancing to the 15th Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament in 2015, Prestonsburg is looking to take the next step.
“Last year our goal was to make it to the region tournament,” Prestonsburg Coach Emily Rizzo confided. “After reaching that goal for the first time in school history, the players have increased their intensity and are pushing to make it to the regional finals this year.”
Junior Phil Cornett is back for the Blackcats after scoring 16 goals and dealing out 17 assists during the 2015 season.
Senior midfielder Dean Andler (10 goals, 4 assists) and senior forward Nick Caudill (7 goals, 7 assists) are other top returnees for the Blackcats.
Andler and fellow seniors Zach Skaggs and Dylan Cline will serve as captains for the Blackcats in the 2016 season. Additional experienced players back for Prestonsburg include Dalton Goble (Sr.), Zion Echols (Sr.), Nate Blackburn (So.), Nick Caudill (Sr.), Billy Joe Patton (Jr.) and Sage Jervis (So.).
Seth Ramsey (Sr.), Cameron Goble (Fr.), Dalton Vaughn (So.), Andrew Burchett (So.) and Peyton Wright (So.) are newcomers for the Prestonsburg boys’ soccer program.
The Blackcats entered the week set to visit 15th Region rival Belfry for a season opener on Tuesday. Prestonsburg’s 2016 schedule will include additional games versus Sheldon Clark, Paintsville, Johnson Central, Hazard, Russell, Belfry, Sheldon Clark, Pikeville, Pike County Central, Shelby Valley and Hazard. The Blackcats are slated to compete in the 15th Region All “A” Classic on Sept. 6.
