LEXINGTON – Kentucky coach Mark Stoops says sophomore free safety Darius West will miss this season after injuring his left patellar tendon in practice on Friday.
Stoops announced West’s injury after Saturday’s scrimmage. West previously had a right leg injury. The 6-foot, 210-pound West was practicing with the first-teamers in fall camp after making 17 tackles in 10 games last season on special teams.
Stoops said that West has “worked really hard and I’m sorry for him, but he will miss the season.”
Stoops also said wide receiver Blake Bone missed the scrimmage with a hamstring injury but expects him back next week. The coach added that running back Mikel Horton sustained a “pretty good” ankle injury in the scrimmage, but did not elaborate.
