Blackcats drop season opener to Belfry

BELFRY – Prestonsburg dropped its season opener on Tuesday, falling to host Belfry in a boys’ high school soccer match. Junior Wilson Harris scored two goals to help the Pirates double up the visiting Blackcats 4-2.

Familiar foes, Prestonsburg and Belfry are 15th Region rivals.

Aiding the Belfry offensive attack, Christian Long and Nick McNamee scored one goal apiece.

Dylan Brown provided an assist on one of the Pirates’ four goals.

Defensively for Belfry, goalkeeper Elijah Williamson limited Prestonsburg to two goals in the season-opening contest.

Nicholas Caudill, a senior striker, netted both of Prestonsburg’s goals in the loss.

Blackcat junior goalkeeper Dalton Trusty gave up four goals in the short effort.

Prestonsburg is under the guidance of head coach Emily Rizzo. The Blackcats are scheduled to host Belfry on Aug. 30.

Prestonsburg was due to host Sheldon Clark in a home opener at StoneCrest on Thursday evening. The Blackcats have additional regular-season games remaining versus Paintsville, Johnson Central, Hazard, Russell, Shelby Valley, Pikeville and Pike County Central.
