MOREHEAD – Malik Winston, a 6-foot-4 combo guard, from Dundalk High School (Md.), will join the Morehead State University men’s basketball program for the 2016-17 season.

“I’ve always had success with east coast guards,” said MSU Coach Sean Woods. “This kid here can really shoot it, on top of being a great defender.”

Winston, a native of Baltimore, Md., averaged 21 points, seven rebounds, and three assists as he led the Owls to an 18-6 record, along with an appearance in the Class 3A North Section II playoffs, during his senior campaign.

Winston also exceeded the 1,000-point milestone during his playing career with Dundalk on his senior night.

“He is a guy who comes in here with a lot to prove, because he feels that he was under-recruited a little bit,” said Woods. “He fits the mentality of our team.”

Winston is the fifth and final member of Morehead State’s 2016 signing class. He joins true freshmen Jordan Walker, Djimon Henson, and Alonzo Chatman, in addition to junior college transfer Soufiyane Diakite.

The Eagles are coming off one of the program’s best seasons, posting a 23-14 record, which included an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational Finals.
