PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg rolled past 57th District rival Sheldon Clark 10-0 in a home opener on Thursday.
Familiar girls’ high school soccer foes, Prestonsburg and Sheldon Clark are scheduled to meet for another regular-season match on Sept. 22.
“We controlled the game from the beginning,” Prestonsburg Coach Paul Burchett commented. “I felt like all the girls did a good job and we got to play everyone quite a bit. It was good to see our offense coming from several different places in the game, having five different girls score.”
McKenzie Little scored three goals to lead Prestonsburg to the victory. In addition to Little’s hat trick, Prestonsburg received two goals apiece from Elizabeth Burchett, Haley Fitzpatrick and Makayla Ousley.
Rounding out the Prestonsburg scoring, Christin Mitchell added one goal.
Along with her two goals, Elizabeth Burchett delivered two assists. Ousley, Sierra Crawford, Jana Jarvis, Annabelle Trusty and Kaylee Williams dished out one assist apiece for the Lady Blackcats.
Prestonsburg goalkeeper Hannah Stratton recorded her second consecutive shutout, holding Sheldon Clark scoreless.
The Lady Blackcats remained in the win column after blanking Belfry 3-0 in a season opener on Tuesday (Aug. 16). With the win, Prestonsburg moved to 2-0.
Sheldon Clark opened its season 0-1 with the loss.
Both Prestonsburg and Sheldon Clark will compete in the 57th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament in October.
