Blackcats drop district game to Paintsville

PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg dropped a home match to visiting 57th District boys’ soccer rival Paintsville earlier in the week. Visiting Paintsville edged the Blackcats 2-1 on penalty kicks.

With the loss, Prestonsburg dropped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the 57th District.

Paintsville improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the district with the win.

Senior Brent Barley and sophomore Ethan Mills scored one goal apiece for the Tigers in the victory. Aiding the Paintsville offensive attack, junior Lucas Adkins dealt out one assist.

Defensively for Paintsville, goalkeeper Sam Smith, a sophomore, limited Prestonsburg to one goal.

Sophomore Nate Blackburn scored Prestonsburg’s lone goal off an assist from teammate Phil Cornett, a junior.

Defensively for Prestonsburg, junior goalkeeper Dalton Trusty allowed two goals. Through three games, Trusty has limited opponents to six goals.

The Blackcats slipped back into the loss column after rolling past 57th District foe Sheldon Clark 10-0 on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Prestonsburg is slated to visit Paintsville on Sept. 15.
