HI HAT – Chad Hall didn’t waste any time getting the South Floyd Raiders on the football field. South Floyd took the field under the direction of its first-year head coach on Friday, shortly after the conclusion of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Dead Period. On Saturday, South Floyd compiled a 4-2 record in a passing tournament at Betsy Layne.
“We had a good turnout for practice on Friday,” Hall said. “I was very impressed with what our team picked up on Friday and how it executed on Saturday. We finished 4-2 at Betsy Layne with losses to Paintsville and Shelby Valley, losing to each team by less than a touchdown.”
Hall, who replaced longtime head coach Donnie Daniels, inherits a South Floyd team fresh off a 5-6 campaign. The Raiders fell to Fairview in the opening round of the 2014 Class 1A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.
South Floyd will attend camp at Morehead State University July 24-26. Hall and his coaching staff will continue to guide the Raiders through practices at Raider Field before venturing to Morehead for the camp later in the month.
South Floyd will host Meet the Raiders on Aug. 14. The Raiders will travel to Powell County for a scrimmage on Aug. 15, prior to opening the season against an in-county rival.
South Floyd will host Betsy Layne for a season-opener on Aug. 21. The Raiders’ regular-season schedule will also include games versus Harlan, Knott County Central, Allen Central, Pikeville, Twin Valley (Va.), Jenkins, Hazard, Phelps and East Ridge.
