PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg High School lineman Jordan Ray will visit national powerhouse University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio, Friday. Mount Union is an 11-time NCAA Division III Champion.
Ray is headed into his senior season at Prestonsburg High School. He ranks as one of the state’s top high school linemen. Ray is listed as one of top players in Class 2A, District 8 by The Cats’ Pause 2015 Kentucky Football Yearbook.
In June, Union College (NAIA), a member of the Mid-South Conference, offered Ray a scholarship.
Along with the University of Mount Union and Union College, Ray has drawn interest from multiple other schools, including Morehead State University (NCAA) and Lindsey Wilson College (NAIA).
Mount Union has won 11 NCAA Division III Football Championships, capturing titles in 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2012. The 11 national titles is a record for any football program in any division in a playoff format.
The NCAA Division III national championship game is the Amos Alonozo Stagg Bowl, which Mount Union has played in in 16 times since 1993. Salem Stadium, located in Salem, Va., hosts the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
The Purple Raiders compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference, which also features Baldwin Wallace, Capital, Heidelberg, John Carroll, Marietta, Mount Union, Muskingum, Ohio Northern, Otterbein and Wilmington.
The tradition-rich Mount Union football program dates back to 1893.
