FRANKFORT – The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats’ run in the All “A” Classic State Tournament ended over the weekend. Third Region champion Owensboro Catholic pulled away to beat 15th Region champ Prestonsburg 5-2 in the small-school state girls’ soccer tournament on Saturday.
Prestonsburg suffered its first loss in the 2016 season.
With the setback, Prestonsburg was eliminated from the All “A” Classic State Tournament, dropping to 12-1-2.
Owensboro Catholic advanced in the All “A” Classic State Tournament, improving to 12-2- 1 with the win.
The Lady Aces used a balanced offensive attack to earn the win. Ambere Barnett, Genarose Jones, Holly Logsdon, Lily Moore and Kara Morris scored one goal apiece for Owensboro Catholic in the victory.
Grace Wright provided two assists for the Lady Aces. Logsdon, Moore and Olivia Thomas contributed one assist apiece for Owensboro Catholic in the victory.
Defensively for the Lady Aces, goalkeeper Ellie Mitchell limited Prestonsburg to two goals in the state tournament match.
Jillian Kidd scored two goals off assists from Elizabeth Burchett to lead the Lady Blackcats.
Defensively for Prestonsburg, goalkeeper Hannah Stratton allowed five goals.
Prestonsburg entered the week with regular season games remaining versus Letcher County Central, Breathitt County, Hazard and Perry County Central. The Lady Blackcats are slated to host Letcher County Central on Thursday evening.
