PRESTONSBURG – Visiting Allen Central shut out Floyd County Conference/58th District rival Prestonsburg 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) at the Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. The victory allowed longtime 15th Region frontrunner Allen Central to finish undefeated in the Floyd County Conference’s regular season and capture the conference’s regular season championship.
With the win, Allen Central improved to 21-6 overall and 6-0 in the Floyd County Conference/58th District.
Prestonsburg dropped to 13-9 overall and 0-5 in the conference/district with the loss.
First-year head coach Darlene Moore guided the Rebels to a 15th Region All “A” Classic title earlier in the month. Moore replaced Larry Maynard as the head coach of the Allen Central volleyball program prior to the start of the current campaign.
Allen Central remains on top in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association’s 15th Region Top 5 Poll. The Rebels are ranked 23rd in the latest Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll. Allen Central is the only 15th Region team ranked in the Top 25.
Sacred Heart overtook the poll’s number one spot with 11 first place votes. Assumption slipped to number two, but still received eight first place votes. Mercy, Henry Clay, Tates Creek, No0rth Oldham, Notre Dame, Presentation, St. Henry and Paul Laurence Dunbar round out the Top 10 in the poll.
Allen Central will compete in the 58th District Volleyball Tournament in mid-October.
