EASTERN – Allen Central suffered its first loss in the 2016 season as visiting Leslie County pulled away to win 26-8 on Friday night.
With the loss, Allen Central slipped to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in Class 2A, District 8.
Leslie County improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the district with the win.
Moving ahead early, Leslie County scored the first points in the district game on a safety after an Allen Central snap that sailed into the end zone.
Dylan Caudill provided what would be Allen Central’s lone touchdown, breaking free for an 89-yard scoring run in the first quarter. Capping Caudill’s touchdown, Jesse Brown added a two-point conversion run to allow the Rebels to move ahead 8-2.
But the Rebels couldn’t maintain the early momentum.
Leslie County battled back, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 14-8 at halftime.
Thriving defensively after Allen Central’s early big play, Leslie County held the Rebels scoreless in each of the last three quarters. The Eagles added one touchdown in each of the last two periods to pull out the 26-8 win.
Leading Leslie County to the win, quarterback Darron Whitaker completed 12-of-18 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for two other TDs.
Tyler Dixon led the Eagles in receiving, reeling in four receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Seth Melton, who quarterbacked the Eagles earlier in the season, hauled in six pass receptions for 46 yards.
Pacing Leslie County’s rushing attack, Lucas Vance rushed 22 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns.
The Rebels rushed for 255 yards on 42 carries. Caudill gained 176 yards on 19 rush attempts and delivered the Rebels’ lone touchdown. The Rebel quarterback completed 8-of-12 passes for 73 yards.
Allen Central will look to return to the win column on the road at Betsy Layne in another Class 2A, District 8 game on Thursday, Oct. 6.
