Prestonsburg shuts out host Breathitt County, 2-0

JACKSON – Earning a hard-fought win, Prestonsburg pushed past Breathitt County 2-0 in a late-season girls’ high school soccer game on Monday night.

With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 14-1-2.

Breathitt County dropped to 8-8-0 with the loss.

Freshman forward Elizabeth Burchett led Prestonsburg to the win. Burchett scored each of the Lady Blackcats’ goals.

Contributing offensively for Prestonsburg, senior midfielder Carly Burchett provided an assist on one of Elizabeth Burchett’s two goals in the victory.

Defensively for the Lady Blackcats, goalkeeper Hannah Stratton, a junior, held homestanding Breathitt County scoreless.

The Lady Cats struggled to get going offensively on their home field. Defensively for Breathitt County, goalkeeper Grace Badarak allowed both of Prestonsburg’s goals.

Girls’ high school soccer teams from around the state are winding down their regular seasons.

Prestonsburg entered the week with regular season games remaining versus Hazard and Perry County Central. The Lady Blackcats are slated to meet Sheldon Clark in the first round of the 57th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament at Johnson Central on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
