PRESTONSBURG – Ashley Veach and Lauren Vice turned in top-five finishes to make the all-tournament team, but it wasn’t enough to give the University of Pikeville women’s golf team a win as it took second place at its Fall Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course on Monday.
Midway won the team championship with a score of 656 (321-335), UPIKE took second with 672 (326-346) strokes and Fontbonne (Mo.) finished third after carding a 776 (375-401).
Individual medalist honors went to Midway’s Hannah Scroggins with a 158 (80-78), followed closely by her teammate Kathryn Lawler with a 159 (77-82).
Veach finished fourth overall to lead the Bears with a score of 163 (79-84), while Vice tied for fifth place overall with a 164 (81-83). Ardriane Mason (170) and Bethany Jervis (175) tied for 8th and took 10th place, respectively, and Ashley Richmond finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place with a 180 (91-89).
Vice had the best statistical feat for UPIKE, leading the tournament by finishing with a one-over par score on par three holes. Veach paced the Bears with two birdies and Veach and Mason tied with 17 pars.
UPIKE will wrap up its fall season Oct. 16-17 at the Shawnee State Invitationalat the Elks Country Club in McDermott, Ohio
