Rebels notch district win over host Bobcats

EASTERN – Allen Central quarterback Dylan Caudill rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another TD to lead the Rebels past familiar Floyd County foe Betsy Layne 34-8 in a Class 3A, District 8 football game on the road on Thursday night (Oct. 6).

With the win, Allen Central improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in Class 2A, District 8.

Betsy Layne dropped to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the district with the loss.

As a team, Allen Central rushed for 229 yards.

Leading the Rebels’ rushing attack, Caudill rushed five times for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Caudill in the Allen Central rushing column, Cameron Evans rushed five times for 71 yards and one touchdown in the victory.

Giving Allen Central a third running back with positive yardage, Steven Howard took three carries for 35 yards and touchdown.

Nearly perfect through the air, Caudill completed four of five passes for 46 yards and one touchdown.

Allen May led Allen Central in receiving, reeling in three receptions for 46 yards and one touchdown for the Rebels.

Howard led the Allen Central defensive effort with a game-high 13 tackles. Josh King contributed nine tackles and Evans added eight stops for the Rebels.

Aiding the Allen Central defensive effort, Jesse Brown recorded an interception.

Allen Central held longtime rival Betsy Layne to under 100 rushing yards. Leading the Bobcats on the ground, Corey Bias rushed 10 times for 34 yards.

Betsy Layne quarterback Jordan Kendrick completed six of 12 passes for 41 yards in the loss.

Nathan Keathley, an inspirational newcomer for Betsy Layne, scored the Bobcats’ only points. Keathley returned a kickoff for a touchdown and capped the TD with a successful two-point conversion run. Betsy Layne and Allen Central coaching staffs teamed up to make Keathley’s touchdown and two-point conversion happen.
