Blackcats suffer season-ending loss to Paintsville

PAINTSVILLE – The Prestonsburg Blackcats’ 2016 season ended in the opening round of the postseason. Paintsville pulled away to beat the Blackcats 3-1 in the first round of the 57th District Boys’ Soccer Tournament at Johnson Central on Monday.

Paintsville posted its third straight win, winning for the fourth time in five games.

With the loss, Prestonsburg exited the 2016 season with a 7-10-0 record.

Paintsville improved to 12-6-1 and advanced to the district championship match with the win.

Prior to entering the postseason, Prestonsburg had posted back-to-back-to-back wins over Sheldon Clark, Shelby Valley and Hazard.

Lucas Adkins led Paintsville to the win. The productive Adkins scored two of the Tigers’ three goals in the victory.

Accompanying Adkins in the Paintsville scoring column, Brett Bartley added one goal.

Ethan Mills and Jake Plumley chipped in one assist apiece for the Tigers in the winning effort.

Defensively for Paintsville, goalkeeper Sam Smith limited Prestonsburg to only one goal.

Phil Cornett netted Prestonsburg’s lone goal off an assist from Dylan Cline.

Defensively for Prestonsburg, goalkeeper Dylan Trusty allowed three goals.

Johnson Central 8, Sheldon Clark 0: Donovan Ward recorded a hat trick to lead host Johnson Central past Sheldon Clark 8-0 in the first round of the 57th District Boys’ Soccer Tournament on Monday.

Accompanying Ward in the Johnson Central scoring column, Mason Blanton, Austin Dye, Keegan Hoaglin, Ethan Pack and Daniel Short added one goal apiece

Dye, Logan Puckett and Kameron Rice distributed two assists apiece for the Golden Eagles.

Defensively for Johnson Central, goalkeeper Travis Caudill held Sheldon Clark scoreless.
