PRESTONSBURG – After playing five consecutive games on the road, Prestonsburg is poised to take the field in the familiar confines of Blackcat Stadium. Prestonsburg is slated to host Allen Central in a key Class 2A, District 8 football game on Friday night.
Both Prestonsburg and Allen Central are 2-1 in Class 2A, District 8. Enjoying one of its best seasons ever, Allen Central is 6-1. Through its first seven games, Prestonsburg is 4-3 overall.
“Allen Central is a very good team,” said Prestonsburg Coach John DeRossett. “Coach (Jeremy) Hall and his staff have done an outstanding job. They have a bunch of experience and play mostly seniors. They have been ranked in the top 10 of most polls this year. It should be a good crowd for the game with a county matchup. We have worked hard this week and continue to prepare in all three phases of the game. We are a little banged up after the Leslie County game and may have a few players out, so the next guy will have to step up.”
Prestonsburg has notched wins over Sheldon Clark, Breathitt County, Shelby Valley and East Ridge. The Blackcats have dropped games to Pikeville, Hazard and Leslie County.
Prestonsburg has outscored opponents 240-186.
Allen Central has claimed wins over Phelps, Morgan County, Jenkins, South Floyd, East Ridge and Betsy Layne. Leslie County dealt Allen Central its lone loss in the 2016 season to date, defeating the Rebels 26-8 in Hyden on Sept. 30.
Allen Central has outscored opponents 278-108.
Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Allen Central football game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium.
