PHS announces festivities for Joe P. Tackett Gridiron Classic

Fresh off a win over Allen Central, Prestonsburg will host Betsy Layne in the Joe P. Tackett Gridiron Classic.


PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg will host longtime Floyd County rival Betsy Layne for the Joe P. Tackett Gridiron Classic on Friday, Oct. 21. The Blackcats and Bobcats will hook up in a Class 2A, District 8 football game.

Prestonsburg head coach John DeRossett has announced numerous festivities for the Joe P. Tackett Gridiron Classic.

The Blackcats will hold Senior Night prior to the Class 2A, District 8 matchup. Prestonsburg seniors and their families will be recognized beginning at 7 p.m.

The Prestonsburg High School football program will recognize A-, B- and C-team football players and coaches from Adams Middle School, Prestonsburg Elementary School and Allen Elementary School. Each player will receive a gift at halftime of the Prestonsburg-Betsy Layne game.

Joe P. Tackett family members will serve as game captains for the coin toss.

DeRossett will be hosting a cookout for area police, firefighters, first responders and active duty and veterans of the military. Bubba’s BBQ will be on site for BBQ and drinks from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the street between Hardee’s and Blackcat Stadium.

Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Betsy Layne game is set for 7:30 p.m.
