HI HAT – Class A football teams often struggle with numbers. Longtime Class A program South Floyd, however, welcomed more players out to the gridiron last week.

“I am very pleased with the way practice has started,” first-year South Floyd Coach Chad Hall said. “We have a young group but the guys are working very hard and are picking up our system quicker than expected. Our numbers picked up last week as well.”

South Floyd compiled a 5-6 record in 2014 after falling to former state runner-up Fairview in the opening round of the Class 1A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. Finishing the 2014 regular-season 5-5, South Floyd posted wins over Hannan (W.Va.), Knott County Central, Jenkins, Allen Central and Phelps. The Raiders dropped regular-season games to Magoffin County, Pineville, Betsy Layne, Pikeville and East Ridge.

Hall, his coaching staff and players will meet fans and be available for members of the media during Meet the Raiders on Aug. 14. The fan-friendly event will be held one day before South Floyd hits the field for a preseason scrimmage versus Powell County.

South Floyd will travel to Powell County for its only preseason scrimmage on Aug. 15.

The Raiders will attend camp at Morehead State University Friday-Sunday.
