Raiders picked to finish third in district

HI HAT – South Floyd is picked to finish third in Class A, District 8. The Raiders are listed behind Hazard and frontrunner Pikeville in The Cats’ Pause 2015 Kentucky Football Yearbook’s Preseason Class A, District 8 Poll.

South Floyd is picked to finish ahead of Jenkins and Phelps in the five-team district.

First-year head coach Chad Hall is preparing to guide the Raiders into the 2015 season. Hall, who replaced longtime head coach Donnie Daniels, inherited a talented South Floyd squad.

Junior halfback James Little and senior quarterback Hunter Johnson are both back for the Raiders.

Little rushed 81 times for 533 yards and four touchdowns for the South Floyd gridiron group during the 2014 season.

Johnson completed 42 of 74 passes for 607 yards and seven touchdowns for the Raiders in 2014.

South Floyd exited last season with a 5-6 record.

Preseason favorite Pikeville, following an upset loss to Paintsville ended the 2014 season 11-1.

Hazard finished 10-3, Jenkins 1-8-1 and Phelps 0-10-1.

In addition to the District 8 members, Class A features Lynn Camp, Harlan, Pineville, Williamsburg, Fairview, Paintsville, Raceland, Bracken County, Berea, Nicholas County, Paris, Dayton, Ludlow, Bellevue, Beechwood, Eminence, Kentucky Country Day, Holy Cross, Frankfort, Fort Knox, Caverna, Bethlehem, Campbellsville, Fulton City, Fulton County, Crittenden County and Russellville.

The Raiders attended camp at Morehead State University Friday-Sunday. South Floyd is scheduled to travel to Powell County for a preseason scrimmage on Aug. 15.
