BETSY LAYNE – South Floyd defeated Allen Central 66-28 in the opening game of the 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament at the Dome on Monday night.
With the win, the Lady Raiders advanced to the 58th District championship game.
The South Floyd girls’ basketball program continued to build on its winningest season ever, improving to 24-7.
Allen Central, which is set to consolidate with South Floyd to form Floyd Central, finished its final campaign 8-23.
South Floyd was led in scoring by Cheyann Light, who finished with a game-high 15 points. Two Lady Raiders delivered double-doubles. Taylor Berger, one of the two Lady Raiders to record a double-double, led South Floyd in rebounding, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. Berger scored 13 points and Katie Moore contributed 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Kaylee Moore hauled in 11 rebounds and scored seven points, Jesse Tackett added eight points while dishing out three assists and Brooke Stumbo scored five points and registered a game-high three steals for the Lady Raiders.
Kelsey Parsons hit two 3-pointers on her way to leading Allen Central with a team-high 12 points. Parsons was the only Lady Rebel to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Grace Martin and Kacy Stumbo each had four points and Kacie Poston and Alex Samons added three points each for the Lady Rebels in the season-ending loss.
