BETSY LAYNE – The South Floyd Lady Raiders defeated the Betsy Layne Ladycats 51-27 in the championship game of the 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament at the Dome on Thursday night.
With the win, South Floyd improved to 25-7.
Betsy Layne dropped to 14-17 with the loss.
Both South Floyd and Betsy Layne advanced to the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.
South Floyd was led in scoring by Cheyann Light, who finished with a game-high 15 points. Light also recorded a game-high five steals for the Lady Raiders.
Katie Moore had another double-double for South Floyd, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Taylor Berger led the South Floyd in rebounding, grabbing 15 rebounds. Berger also had four blocks and eight points for the Lady Raiders.
Kaylee Moore came off the South Floyd bench to add five points, six rebounds, one block and one steal. Jessie Tackett added eight points, two assists and two steals for the Lady Raiders in the victory.
Brooke Stumbo scored four points, recorded two steals and distributed one assist in South Floyd’s win.
Light was presented with an award for reaching her 1,000th career point and Kaylee Moore was named Floyd County Co-Player of the Week by WMDJ and Scott’s Sporting Goods prior to tip-off.
Destiny Compton led Betsy Layne with 14 points on 100 percent shooting from the free throw line. Compton also pulled down six rebounds.
Megan Frazier added nine points and a game-high 18 rebounds for the Ladycats, just missing another double-double. Summer Johnson, Kaitlin Kidd and Alex Sisco combined for 12 rebounds for Betsy Layne in the loss.
