South Floyd beat Allen Central to win its third straight 58th District boys’ basketball championship on Friday night.

BETSY LAYNE – South Floyd topped rival Allen Central 71-62 in the championship game of the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the Dome on Friday night to win its third consecutive title.

With the win, South Floyd improved to 20-12.

Allen Central slipped to 14-18 with the loss.

Both South Floyd and Allen Central advance to the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville. Allen Central will face Lawrence County in an opening round game in the region tournament on Wednesday night. Tip-off for the Allen Central-Lawrence County contest is set for 8 p.m.

South Floyd will meet Magoffin County in another first round matchup in the region tournament on Thursday night. Tip-off for the South Floyd-Magoffin County game is set for 6:30 p.m.

South Floyd’s Jacob Collins led all scorers in the district title game, finishing with a game-high 28 points while shooting 75 percent from 3-point range.

JR Tackett scored 16 points thanks in part to shooting 86 percent from the free throw line. Tackett also grabbed seven rebounds.

Brady Conn added 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for the Raiders.

Blake Johnson, a junior guard, went 4-for-5 from the free throw line down the stretch to add eight points for the Raiders.

Shane Kidd, Kyle Isaac and James Isaac combined for 12 rebounds in South Floyd’s district title win over the Rebels.

Allen Central was led in scoring by Cameron Nelson, who finished with 21 points.

Joining Nelson in double figures for the Rebels, Ethan Smith-Mills added 15 points.

Dylan Caudill scored eight points, Kolby Slone netted seven points and Allen May added five points for the Rebels.

Before the district championship game, Blake Slone was named Floyd County Co-Player of the Week by WMDJ and Scott’s Sporting Goods and Collins was presented with an award for his 1,000th career point.
