Floyd County Sheriff makes drug arrest in Wheelwright

WHEELWRIGHT – On Thursday, at approximately 9 p.m., Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt and deputies stopped a 2003 Chevrolet pick-up in the Wheelwright community. The driver of the truck was Scott Dwayne Tackett, 38, of Orchard Fork in Melvin. While talking with the driver, deputies noticed a firearm with a box of ammunition inside of the truck.

Further investigation revealed prescription pills in the middle console, various prescription pills in plastic baggies and Tackett’s pockets containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine along with a straw that had been used to snort drugs.

Tackett was arrested and transported to the Floyd County Jail. He was charged with the following: failure of owner to maintain required insurance, failure to transfer motor vehicle, possession of open container, drug paraphernalia, trafficking controlled substance – first degree and possession of controlled substance – first degree.
