PRESTONSBURG – The smell of gasoline, oil and tires burning up the track are just a few short weeks away. East Kentucky Motorsports and Hillbilly Arm Drop will kick off the drag race season April 16 with a one-race event Test and Tune $1000 winner take all challenge.
East Kentucky Motorsports met Tuesday night for their regular weekly meeting to discuss some changes in the upcoming season and to announce a class to their regular five class series. Board members James “Huggie” Williamson and Shawn Woods were on hand along with Hillbilly Christmas in July representative Jimmy Kinney to announce the Outhouse class for the 2016 races.
“This will be a great fun event to give back to the community,: said Kinney. Entry fee is $25 for the Outhouse class with a $100 payout each race. All the money raised will benefit Hillbilly Christmas in July.”
HCJ donate money each year to the Shriner’s hospital in Lexington. The racers will actually be racing in an outhouse on wheels. Each team will have five members. One member will sit inside the outhouse, while the other four team members push the outhouse. The first team to cross the finish line wins.
This year, East Kentucky Motorsports also announced the Championship Race Series. The series involves four cities and three race locations coming together to bring East Kentucky race fans, one red hot race series of excitement. Paintsville, Prestonsburg, Pikeville and Morehead will host a Championship Race Series where racers will compete at Combs Airport Arm Drop Drags, Pikeville Streetlight Challenge, and Morehead’s Motorplex. Points will be tallied and at the end of the race series an overall winner will be announced.
This year six race classes to compete are: street tire/straight motor (ss100 class), street tire/power adders (sp200 class), drag tire/straight motor (ds300 class), drag tire/power adders (dp400 class), outlaw class (0500 class), and the recently announced outhouse class.
This year’s Championship Race Series dates are April 30 – Combs Arm Drop Drags; May 21 – Pikeville Streetlight Challenge; June 4- Motorplex; July 2 – Combs Arm Drop Drags; Aug. 13 – Pikeville Streetlight Challenge; Sept. 17 – Motorplex; Oct. 15 – Grand Championshup at Combs.
