John Rogers of Toler Creek in Harold is set to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was born June 24, 1935 in Galveston.
Rogers met Inez Kidd and they were married in the fall of 1960 on the banks of Toler Creek. Together, they have six children, 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Rogers has worked as a coal miner, block layer, night watchman and a janitor.
He was baptized in 1955 and then became a minister. Rogers baptized many in Floyd, Knott, Pike and surrounding counties, and still preaches with local congregations today.
An 80th birthday party in honor of Rogers will be held on June 20 at Spruce Pine Community Center. All friends and family are welcome to attend and bring a covered dish.
