Belfry headed back to state title game

LEXINGTON The Belfry Pirates are set to play for another state title. Belfry knocked off top-ranked Somerset 28-23 Friday night in the Class 3A State Semifinals. The Pirates (10-4) will face Central (8-6) on Saturday in the Class 3A state championship game.
For the second consecutive year, six new state champions will be crowned at the KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl at Houchens-L.T. Smith Stadium on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Three games will be contested on Friday, Dec. 3 and Saturday, Dec. 4.
Two defending champions (Boyle County and Highlands) are making a trip to the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl this year while a total of four undefeated teams (Mayfield, Hazard, Allen County-Scottsville and Boyle County) will be trying to take home a championship.
Single-session general admission tickets are on sale at any of the 12 participating schools for an advance purchase price of $8 each. Single-session general admission tickets will be available at the gate on game day for $10 each and are available through the KHSAA website at www.khsaa.org/football.
Admission gates will open one hour before game time for each contest on Friday and Saturday.
