Velma Jean Scalf, age 80, of Betsy Layne, wife of John Scalf, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the Prestonsburg Health Care Center, in Prestonsburg. She was born April 16, 1931, in Harold, the daughter of the late Henry Adkins and Dollie Adkins. Mrs. Scalf was an Office Manager for Kentucky Wholesale.

Survivors include her husband, John; a daughter, Jennifer Ann Scalf Cisney, of Betsy Layne; four brothers, Gary Adkins and Darrell Adkins, both of Harold, Dale Adkins, of Morehead, and James Edward Adkins, of Prestonsburg; and a sister, Gloria Lynn.

Funeral services for Velma Jean Scalf will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, May 13, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with Chuck Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, with the Hall Funeral Home, of Martin, caring for those arrangements.
