PRESTONSBURG - A Floyd County couple charged with four counts of criminal abuse had their indictments unsealed Friday after they were housed in the Floyd County Detention Center following their arrest.

Gwendalou Shepherd, of Gunlock, and Mark A. Davis, of Prestonsburg, were charged with intentionally abusing and allowing abuse of a 2-month-old child.

The abuses are alleged to have occurred between Aug. 4 and Oct. 6. The infant suffered various injuries from the abuse, which included broken ribs, a broken arm and leg, and a fractured skull.

The indictment alleges that the couple had custody of the child at the time that the abuses occurred. The complaining witness in the case is State Trooper Bryan Layne.

The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office could not comment on the case due to its sensitive nature, but did indicate that the child, not yet a year old, is in a safe environment at this time and receiving the best of care.
