Charles C. Humphrey, age 81, of Melvin, was born on November 27, 1923, in Carter County, the son of the late Herbert and Nannie Slone Humphrey. He entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Pikeville Medical Center.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, a retired coal miner, a lifetime member of Garrett Chapter 128 of Disabled American Veterans, a member of Local Union 5899, and a member of the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Stanley Humphrey; sons: Michael (Gail) Humphrey of Melvin, Robin (Brenda) Humphrey of Prestonsburg, and Karl-Heinz (Barbara) Frost of Berlin, Germany; daughter, Gail (James) Campbell of Prestonsburg; brothers: James Humphrey of Hillard, Ohio, Palmer Humphrey of Ligon, and Herbert Humphrey Jr., of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters: Ruby Gilliam of Ligon, and Lucy Phillips of Lancaster, Ohio; and seven grandchildren: Jami Cole, Brian Campbell, Nicholas Humphrey, Aaron Humphrey, Jenna Humphrey, Andi Frost, and Alex Frost.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m., in the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, with Louie Ferrari officiating.

Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, in Ivel, under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home, of Martin.

Pallbearers: Nick Humphrey, Aaron Humphrey, Brian Campbell, Scotty Humphrey, Steve Cole, and Shane Humphrey.
