Draxie B. Newsome, age 90, of Ligon, widow of Lark Newsome, passed away Monday, November 14, 2005, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born April 16, 1915, in Ligon, the daughter of the late Tim and Mary Elizabeth Henson Bentley.

Survivors include her daughters: Avelean Martin of Winchester, Shirley Wallace of Shiloh, O., Mary Lou King, (Rodney) of Westerville, Ohio, and Jill Mosley (Fred) of Ligon; sons: Effort Newsome (Sylvia) of Florence, Fred Newsome (Shirley) of Columbus, Ohio, Ralph Newsome (Sandy) of Baltimore, Ohio, and David Newsome of Westerville, Ohio, 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents; a daughter, Anna Davis; a son, Jackie Ray Newsome; sisters: Lula Newsome, Dora Newsome, and Audrey Newsome; brothers: Reese Bentley and Claude Bentley.

Funeral services for Draxie B. Newsome will be conducted Thursday, November 17, at 11 a.m., at the Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church, New Salem Association, in McDowell, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, in Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, in Martin.

Visitation is at the church.
