Spurlock guides Hazard to 14th Region title

HINDMAN - Floyd County native Kevin Spurlock has the Hazard Bulldogs back in the Boys' Sweet Sixteen State Basketball Tournament. Hazard completed a championship run Saturday night, beating Jackson City 57-50 in the 14th Region championship game at Knott County Central.

Justin Hicks led Hazard with a game-high 25 points. Hicks was one of eight Hazard players to score points. He was the only Bulldog to reach double figures in the regional championship victory.

Kyle Howard, Jordan Fugate and Drew Davidson led the way for Jackson City as each player reached double figures. Howard led Jackson City with 15 points while Fugate and Davidson added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Hazard outscored Jackson City 12-6 in the fourth quarter.

Spurlock guided the Bulldogs to a All “A” Classic state title in his first season at the helm of the Hazard High boys' basketball program. Hazard will meet Madison Central Thursday in the State Tournament.
