Amberleigh Noel Slone, a Johnson Central High School student, has been chosen to participate in the Governor's Scholars Program this summer on the campus of Bellarmine University, in Louisville. Her focus area (major) will be in International Relations.

Amberleigh was also recently selected as an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. She is the daughter of Greg and Robin Slone, of Van Lear, and the granddaughter of Herman and Dora Slone, of Prestonsburg, and Roger and Marilyn Brown, of Van Lear. She is the great-granddaughter of Ruby Slone, of Paintsville.

The Governor's Scholar Program is a stimulating, five-week, residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year in high school. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth in a challenging, non-traditional experience that balances a strong liberal arts with a full co-curricular and residential life experience.

Amberleigh was one of eight students selected from Johnson Central High School to participate in this summer's Governor Scholars program. The seven other students from Johnson Central are: Alison Dye, Beth Slone, Matt Spencer, Jared McCool, Jared Willis, Bobby Cantrell, and Tom Brown.

"The youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow." Congratulations to these fine students.
