MANCHESTER - The Kevin Spurlock Era at Hazard High School has ended. Spurlock, a Floyd County native who began his basketball coaching career under mentor John Martin at Allen Central High School, accepted the job as Clay County High head coach following the departure of Glenn Gray. Despite coaching a rebuilding Clay County team to a 25-6 record, third-best in the 13th Region during the 2005-06 campaign, Gray opted to no return for a second season.

Clay County claimed the 49th District title last season and made it into the 13th Region Semifinals.

Spurlock leaves Hazard following a 22-11 season last winter. The Spurlock-coached Hazard team won the 14th Region championship after topping both Perry County Central and Leslie County en route to the 54th District title. Spurlock guided the Bulldog boys' basketball team to an 89-32 record in four seasons. Hazard won three 14th Region All “A” Classic titles, one 14th Region crown and an All “A” Classic state championship during Spurlock's tenure.
