PRESTONSBURG - As the 2006 football season got underway last week throughout Kentucky, the Prestonsburg Blackcats could only sit back and watch. P'burg had Week One open and had to wait for Monday evening to kickoff the new season. Although it was at the junior varsity level, Prestonsburg came out running with an easy 45-14 win over visiting Magoffin County. The Blackcat offense wasted little time in finding the endzone. Sophomore tailback Alan Craynon took the handoff and raced 60 yards on the first play from scrimmage to give the Blackcats a 6-0 lead. The Blackcat defense stood tall on the Hornets' first series of downs and forced a quick punt.

Craynon gave the Blackcats a 12-0 lead on P-burg's next series, racing 25 yards around right end. Magoffin was unable to move the football throughout the first half and the Blackcat defense would hold the Hornets to less than 60 yards offense in the first half. Seth Setser's 12-yard touchdown run gave the Cats an 18-0 lead late in the first quarter. Blake Meade found the endzone on two occasions late in the first half and Prestonsburg took a 33-0 lead at the half. Michael Burchett led the Prestonsburg offense. The freshman wasted little time finding the endzone in his first start, scoring from two yards out to give the cats a 39-0 lead.

Magoffin County put two scores on the board late in the game as some of the P'burg freshmen were getting extended playing time in the fourth quarter. Brad Little and Justin Trout were impressive in their first start on the defensive side of the ball.

Austin McKinney ended the Prestonsburg scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run late in the game.
