Eagles fall to Spalding in KIAC’s second round

PIPPA PASSES - The Alice Lloyd College baseball team closed out its season last week in the KIAC Tournament at Berea College. ALC started the tournament with a first round win against Berea, winning 17-6. The Eagles led 15-0 after 5 innings. Matthew Toney got the Eagles off to a good start with a first inning grand slam home run. He finished with two hits and five RBIs. Lamar Williams had three hits and an RBI. C.J. Lynn (two hits, one RBI), Tyler Turner (1 hit, three RBIs), Adam Adkins (two hits), Robert Smith (two hits) and Kevin Slone (two RBIs) also had productive games. The Eagles banged out 16 hits in the game. Timmy Taylor was the starting and winning pitcher for Alice Lloyd.

The Eagles faced top ranked Spalding University in the second round, losing 12-1. Trenton Vanhoose picked up two of Alice Lloyd’s six hits in the game and Turner had the team’s only RBI. Travis Slusher was the starting and losing pitcher for the Eagles.

The Eagles then faced Berea again in the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament. Berea jumped out early in the game, scoring seven runs in the second inning. The Eagles fought back and tied the game in the ninth inning. They scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at 9-9. However, Berea won 11-9 with two runs in the 11th inning. Justin Woodard was the starting pitcher. Kevin Davidson pitched eight and a third innings and got the loss. Spalding University beat Brescia University in the conference tournament title game.

Softball: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagle softball team ended its season last Friday in the first round of the KIAC Tournament at Midway. They lost to Indiana University-Southeast 14-0 in the single elimination tournament. Krista Hardy belted a double and Nicole Slone had a single in the game. IUS won the tournament, beating Spalding University in the finals.
