BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne High School girls' basketball program is poised to return all of its players from the 2006-07 season. Betsy Layne didn't lose any players to graduation. The Ladycats will rank as one of the most experienced 15th Region teams heading into the start of the 2007-08 campaign. 
The Betsy Layne Ladycats just completed a busy summer session. They scrimmaged teams locally in the 15th Region, attended team camp at Georgetown College and participated in Pikeville College Team Camp this past week. The Betsy Layne High varsity team ended the summer 17-8. The Ladycat junior varsity team went 8-9. 
“The girls have worked hard and learned a lot about each other and are now looking forward to vacation and rest before kicking back up in the fall,” Betsy Layne Coach Cassandra Akers commented.
In local scrimmages, the Betsy Layne varsity and junior varsity units each went 2-2. At the Georgetown camp, the Betsy Layne varsity team finished 7-4, while the JV unit put together a 4-6 record. 
At Pikeville College, Betsy Layne's varsity team finished 8-2, while the JV ended play 2-1 as each squad ranked among the best at the summer event.
Betsy Layne is defending champion in both the Floyd County Conference and 58th District . The Ladycats finished the 2006-07 season 18-11, ranked fifth in the final 15th Region standings.
