BUKCHORN - Allen Central thrived on the baseball diamond over the weekend, defeating Harlan and host Buckhorn in a doubleheader. The Rebels won each game handily. More on each game follows.
Allen Central 15, Harlan 5 (5 innings): Allen Central pulled away to beat Harlan 15-5 in five innings at Buckhorn on Saturday.
Pitcher Tanner Hamilton tossed all five innings for Allen Central, earning the win. Hamilton registered five strikeouts.
Offensively, Junior Handshoe, Josh Handshoe and Tyler Cole led Allen Central with three hits apiece.
Josh Handshoe had a game-high four RBI for the Rebels.
Cole and Junior Handshoe had three and two RBI, respectively.
Harlan owned a brief 1-0 lead after scoring once in the top half of the first inning. Allen Central, however, answered Harlan’s initial run. The Rebels plated four runs in the bottom half of the first inning and never trailed again.
The Dragons pulled to within one in the fourth inning before Allen Central pushed across six runs.
Allen Central plated five runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to force the game to end via the 10-Run Mercy Rule.
Allen Central committed two errors in the winning effort.
Harlan scored its five runs via five hits.
Defensively, Harlan committed five errors in the setback.
Allen Central 21, Buckhorn 0 (5 innings): Visiting Allen Central scored three runs in the top half of the first inning and never looked back en route to a convincing 21-0 win in five innings over Buckhorn.
Allen Central plated 21 runs on 18 hits. The Rebels excelled in the field, finishing the game error-free.
Allen Central led 8-0 at the conclusion of the third inning. Following a four-run fourth inning, Allen Central scored nine times during its final plate appearance.
Allen Central pitcher Dillon Lawson tossed a two-hitter. Lawson pitched all five innings for the Rebels. The Allen Central hurler had six strikeouts.
Offensively, Junior Handshoe led Allen Central with four hits. Gage Parsons and Steven Howard had three hits each for the Rebels.
Howard had a game-high five RBI for the Allen Central baseball team. Tyler Halbert and Handshoe added three and two RBI, respectively.
Buckhorn was held to two hits. Struggling defensively, Buckhorn committed nine errors.
