HI HAT — Floyd County Schools will operate on a similar calendar in the 2012-13 school year, following an announcement during the regular board meeting at South Floyd High School Monday night.

During Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Floyd County Board of Education, board members voted to approve the 2012-13 school calendar. According to Supt. Henry Webb, the new calendar will not have too many changes.

“The calendar is very similar to this year’s,” Webb said.

One notable change will be at Christmas break. Last year, the school chose to use three make up days at the beginning of winter break. The 2012-13 calendar will call for those days to be regular school days. Spring break will also offer a third guaranteed day off.

According to Webb, school will begin and end much as it did this year. Beginning in the second week of August, and ending in the early part of May.

Floyd schools were benefited greatly this year by an exceedingly mild winter and are expected to get out of school at the end of next week. According to Webb, Floyd County schools typically average 22 days off due to weather each year. This year, students missed only five.
