DRIFT - Prestonsburg returned to the win column on Tuesday, outlasting host Allen Central 11-4 in nine innings in a 58th District/Floyd County Conference baseball matchup.
The Blackcats erupted at the plate late in the contest, scoring seven runs in the ninth inning.
Prestonsburg improved to 18-8 overall and remained perfect in the district/conference, moving to 6-0.
With the loss, Allen Central dropped to 10-10 overall and 2-2 in the district/conference.
The game served as a tuneup for Prestonsburg as the Blackcats get set to compete in the Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic in Lexington on Saturday.
Senior Adam Crisp pitched the first six innings for the Blackcats. Adam Griffith, pitching out of a relief role, worked the seventh inning for visiting Prestonsburg. Cody Chaffin closed the game out on the mound for the Blackcats.
Prestonsburg scored one run in each of the first two innings and led 3-0 at the end of the fifth inning. The Blackcats kept the three-run cushion until Allen Central tied the game with three runs in the bottom half of the seventh.
Each team scored one run in the eighth inning. Seven of the nine hitters in the Prestonsburg batting order scored in the ninth inning.
Leadoff hitter Grant Anderson led Prestonsburg offensively. Anderson was 4-for-4 with three singles and a double. Anderson, who drew a walk during his first plate appearance, scored three runs.
Dillon Lawson started on the mound for the Allen Central baseball. Lawson pitched eight innings for the Rebels. Brian Handshoe and Tyler Cole also pitched for the Rebels.
Prestonsburg will play Lexington Christian at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning in the Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic at Whitaker Bank Park in Lexington.
