MOUNT STERLING — A Prestonsburg native who is living in Mount Sterling and was until recently a Lexington firefighter is being held on a $50,000 full cash bond, after being indicted May 11 on a rape charge.
William Chaffins, 42, of Mount Sterling, was arrested Saturday, by Kentucky State Police. He has been charged with first-degree rape and is being held in the Montgomery County Regional Detention Center.
Chaffins reportedly resigned from his post as a firefighter on Friday, one day before being jailed on the charge. He had been employed with the department since 2006.
Chaffins is scheduled to be arraigned June 8, before Circuit Judge Beth Maze.
