PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg C-Team stumbled for the first time this season on Wednesday evening, falling to visiting Highland at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium. Highland, a team from neighboring Johnson County, pulled away to beat the Blackcats 26-14.
Highland capitalized early. The Wildcats scored first and excelled throughout the first half, eventually carrying a 20-0 lead into halftime.
The Blackcats got on the scoreboard with one second left in the third quarter as Colby Fugate reached the end zone on a 47-yard run. Carson Poe added the two-point conversion to make the score 20-8 heading into the final quarter.
With five minutes left, Highlands added its last score.
The Blackcats put one last scoring drive together in the fourth quarter. Ryan Meade sprinted 60 yards to set up Prestonsburg’s final touchdown. Nick Garrett took the next carry down to the one-yard line before getting knocked out of bounds to lead to a Carson Poe touchdown. The Blackcats missed the conversion attempt to leave the final score 26-14.
Prestonsburg will be back in action Saturday at home versus Floyd County foe Allen Central.
