HAZARD - Prestonsburg rode a two-game winning streak into Hazard Friday night but couldn’t claim its third straight win. Host Hazard was able to build an early lead and pull away from Prestonsburg, defeating the Blackcats 38-20.

Hazard made the most of its offensive opportunities, scoring first and never trailing. The Bulldogs scored the game’s initial touchdown in the opening quarter and added three more scores en route to a 24-0 lead at halftime.

Hazard led 38-6 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Experienced senior quarterback Evan Whitaker led defending Class A state champion Hazard. Whitaker completed 18-of-24 passes for 244 yards.

Hazard, however, scored all of its touchdowns on the ground.

Whitaker paced the Hazard rushing attack, taking 10 rush attempts for 56 yards and three touchdowns.

Austin Johnson added two rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

Johnson was Whitaker’s top target, hauling in five receptions for 70 yards.

Jordan Olinger and Nathan Higgins each had four receptions for over 60 yards apiece.

Jalen Olinger led the Hazard defensive effort with 10 tackles. Nathan Stupart contributed nine stops for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore quarterback Jarredd Jarrell paced the Prestonsburg offense. Jarrell completed 20-of-29 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns.

Receivers Grant Anderson (seven catches for 96 yards), Bryson Williams (seven catches for 94 yards, one touchdown), Dalton Frasure (two catches for 49 yards), Alex Kidd (four catches for 31 yards, two touchdowns) and Adam Griffith (one catch for 20 yards) aided in the Prestonsburg aerial attack.

Anderson led Prestonsburg in rushing, finishing with 61 yards via six carries. Jarrell rushed 11 times for 57 yards in the loss. Prestonsburg will host district foe Shelby Valley later in the week.
