LOUISA - The Tug Valley Bass Anglers fishing club held its eighth tournament of the 2012 season on Yatesville Lake on Saturday. Twenty-four anglers competed in the event. Angler Lacy Edmiston won the Big Fish Award and claimed the top spot in the tournament.
Yatesville Lake was at normal summer pool with a water temperature in the low 60s. The lake was turning over on the lower end with stained water conditions on the upper end.
Weather for the tournament was good with mostly cloudy skies and an air temperature in the low 60s.
Yatesville Lake has been challenging for anglers over the last several weeks and the day of the tournament was no better. Fish were fairly active in the morning but after the cold front moved in the fish would not chase anything. Most fish were caught in the creeks in one to eight feet of water.
The main pattern for this tournament was to fish spinnerbaits and top water first thing in the morning and slow down and fish tight to cover with soft plastics after the fishing slowed.
The top finishers are as follows:
1. Lacy Edmiston (3 fish), 7.80 lbs.; Big Fish – 3.25 lbs.; 2. Gary Varney (3 fish), 6.99 lbs; 3. Gerry Adkins (2 fish), 5.34 lbs.; 4. Keith Pacific (1 fish), 1.98 lbs.; 5. Lynn Fields (1 fish), 1.89 lbs.; 6. MO (1 fish), 1.87 lbs.; 7. Kevin Runyon (1 fish), 1.84 lbs.; 7. Trent Ramey (1 fish), 1.84 lbs.; 9. Chuck Newman (1 fish), 1.79 lbs.; 10. Mitch Salmons (1 fish), 1.68 lbs.
