Bobcats roll past Hannan, W.Va.

BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Bobcats shook off a loss they had suffered to Class 2A, District 8 rival Leslie County with an impressive 69-22 victory over Hannan, W.Va., Friday night.

With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 5-3 overall.

Betsy Layne moved out in front and never looked back. The Bobcats managed to dominate the visiting team from neighboring West Virginia, excelling on offense, defense and special teams.

Numerous Betsy Layne players contributed to the convincing win.

Betsy Layne quarterback Dylan Hamilton, a junior, completed six-of-eight passes for 150 yards and four touchdowns. Hamilton also rushed for positive yardage.

Betsy Layne backup quarterback Tanner Martin completed two-of-three passes for 45 yards.

Dustin Rogers was Betsy Layne’s leading receiver, reeling in two receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Houston Hall and Peyton Case also had one touchdown reception apiece for the Bobcats.

Zach Bowens rushed for a 35-yard touchdown, Betsy Layne’s lone score via the run. Hamilton, Hall, Charles Daniels, Tony Dirico, Josh Salisbury, Kory Stevens and Preston Thacker were also active in Betsy Layne’s rushing attack.

Case returned an interception 35 yards for a Betsy Layne touchdown.

Martin returned a fumble 15 yards for a touchdown in Betsy Layne’s winning effort.

Hall and Blake Spencer paced the Betsy Layne defensive effort with eight tackles each. In all, eight different Betsy Layne defenders registered three or more tackles.

Betsy Layne will host Shelby Valley (3-5) on Friday, Oct. 19. The Bobcats and Wildcats are both 0-2 in Class 2A, District 8. Kickoff for the Betsy Layne-Shelby Valley game is set for 7:30 p.m.
