Lady Blackcats net second straight district runner-up finish

LOUISA - The Prestonsburg girls’ soccer team finished runner-up in the 57th District for the second straight year. Following a 4-2 victory over Paintsville, Prestonsburg fell to Lawrence County in the district championship match on Thursday. Lawrence County defeated the Lady Blackcats 10-0.
Sophomore Katie Porter and junior Jenna Little represented Prestonsburg on the All-57th District Tournament Team. Prestonsburg finished as the district runner-up for the second straight season.
Lawrence County hosted both the 57th District and 15th Region tournaments. Prestonsburg’s postseason run ended on Monday with a loss to Pikeville in the opening round of the 15th Region Tournament at Lawrence County. Pikeville pulled away to beat the Lady Blackcats 2-0.
Prestonsburg held Pikeville to only one goal until three minutes remaining when the winning squad added another score.
Pikeville advanced to play 57th District champion Lawrence County in the regional championship match. Lawrence County shut out Shelby Valley 10-0 in the other regional tournament contest Monday evening.
Prestonsburg, under the direction of head coach Scott Porter, exited the 2012 season 12-11-0.
