PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville had a tough night on the volleyball court Tuesday, losing in three sets to Shawnee State University despite threatening to take control on numerous occasions.

By scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-16 Shawnee State (18-7; 7-2 in MSC) was able to break out of a two-match skid at the expense of the Bears (4-19; 0-9 in MSC).

The Bears were outkilled by Shawnee State 28-21 despite the efforts of senior Brittany Hodge, who had a game-high with nine to go with junior Stephanie Dounseroux’s four. Dounseroux also assisted on 50 points for UPIKE and provided 20 digs, a total surpassed only by the 22 digs of sophomore libero Samantha Ayres.

The Bears will be looking to get back to winning on Friday when they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio, to play both Lindsey Wilson College and University of the Cumberlands. Meanwhile, Shawnee State will be home on Friday, hosting Campbellsville University.
