AC eliminates Pikeville, advance to title match

BUCKLEYS CREEK - With a 3-0 win over Pikeville at Pike County Central on Wednesday evening, Allen Central earned a chance to vie for another 15th Regional championship. The Rebels prevailed 26-24, 25–16, 25–9 to advance to the championship match.

Allen Central’s Ciara Jones and Katie Kendrick combined for 30 kills, registering 15 each. Jones and Kendrick led a balanced Allen Central offensive attack. Kendrick also slapped in four aces while serving at 100 percent. Jones landed two aces for the Rebels.

Courtney Hodge dished up 35 kills while directing the Allen Central offense. Hodge had two service aces.

Rachel Moore thumped in 10 kills with a service ace for the Rebels. Laken Tackett slapped in four kills and also recorded a service ace as Allen Central prevailed.

Sarah Grindrod chipped in a kill for the Rebels.

The Allen Central squad served at 95 percent, landing 13 service aces and pounding in 45 kills. The Rebels hit .330.

DeShea Elliott led the Allen Central back row with 19 digs. Elliott also smacked in three service aces. Hodge earned nine scoops, Moore dug up five, Jones contributed three and Grindrod added one.

Kendrick blocked seven and dug up five for the Rebels. Tackett blocked six and registered four digs in Allen Central’s win.

Hodge stopped two at the net for the Rebels.

Moore and Grindrod earned a block apiece for the Allen Central volleyball team.

The Rebels earned 15 blocks and returned 87 percent, registering 46 digs.

In the nightcap, East Ridge defeated 58th District runner-up Betsy Layne 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-11).

Allen Central was playing East Ridge in the 15th Region title match at press time on Thursday evening. Results from the championship contest were unavailable.
