Akers appointed to state committee

FRANKFORT — Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed a Floyd County man to serve on a state commission.


Brandon Akers, of Prestonsburg, president of Alliance Corporation, has been tapped, along with eight others, to serve on the state’s High Performance Buildings Advisory Committee. He will represent Associated General Contractors of Kentucky while on the board.


The committee was formed by the legislature in 2010. It is charged with the task of making recommendations about building standards in an effort to promote energy efficiency.


Other members of the board Beshear appointed include:


• Michael Jacobs, of Lexington, architect at Omni Architects, representing the design and construction industry involved in public works contracting.


• Jeffrey S. Moneypenny, of Louisville, architect at Luckett & Farley Architects, Engineers and Construction Managers Inc., representing the Kentucky Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.


• Cheryl Creech Kersey, of Louisville, a self-employed architect, representing the Kentucky Society for the American Institute of Architects.


• Betty C. Whittaker, of Frankfort, executive director of the Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute, representing the Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute.


• Michael Speaks, of Lexington, dean of the University of Kentucky College of Design, representing the University of Kentucky College of Design.


• Robert Bauer, of Frankfort, executive director of the Kentucky Forest Industries Association, representing the Kentucky Forest Industries Association.


• Chris Tyler, of Lexington, HVAC sales engineer at Thermal Equipment Sales, representing the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers.


• Christopher J. Black, of Paducah, general contractor at Ray Black & Son, representing the West Kentucky Construction Association.


All nine of those appointed will serve two-year terms, expiring Aug. 22, 2014.
