On the ground: Salisbury nearing 1,000 yards

BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne football team produced offensively throughout the regular-season and its statistics are reflective of the solid production. Betsy Layne running back Josh Salisbury is nearing the 1,000 yards rushing mark. Salisbury needs less than 80 yards this week to go over 1,000 yards rushing for the season. In 10 games, Salisbury has rushed 109 times for 921 yards and seven touchdowns.

Houston Hall isn’t too far behind Salisbury in the rushing column. Hall has rushed 100 times for 850 yards and three touchdowns.

Tony DiRico has netted 348 yards and rushed for seven touchdowns via only 19 carries for the Bobcats.

As a team, Betsy Layne has rushed for a total of 2,558 yards.

Betsy Layne quarterback Dylan Hamilton piled up passing yardage throughout the regular-season. In 10 regular-season games, Hamilton completed 93-of-191 passes for 1,608 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Peyton Case leads Betsy Layne in receiving. Case has hauled in 31 receptions for 527 yards and six touchdowns.

Dustin Rogers (377 yards, six touchdowns) and Blake Spencer (339 yards, four touchdowns) have also been reliable receivers for the Bobcats.

Spencer leads the Betsy Layne defense with 119 tackles. Hall has registered 106 tackles while Rogers has recorded eight interceptions for the Bobcats.

Betsy Layne notched wins over South Floyd, Allen Central, Knott County Central, Paintsville, Hannan (W.Va.), Shelby Valley and Jenkins during the regular-season. The Bobcats have put together a pair of three-game winning streaks over the last 11 weeks.

A perennial postseason participant, Betsy Layne dropped games to Bracken County and district rivals Prestonsburg and Leslie County during the regular-season.

Betsy Layne exited the regular-season 7-3 overall and 2-1 in Class 2A, District 8. The Bobcats will visit Danville tonight for an opening round game in the Class 2A State Playoffs. Kickoff for the Betsy Layne-Danville game is set for 7:30 p.m.

Floyd County High School Football: Prestonsburg and South Floyd will both host playoff games tonight. Class 2A, District 8 champion Prestonsburg will entertain Middlesboro, the fourth seed out of Class 2A, District 7. At Hi Hat, Class A, District 8 runner-up South Floyd will host Nicholas County, the third seed from Class A, District 7.

Like Betsy Layne, Class A, District 7 third-place finisher Allen Central will be on the road. The Rebels are set to visit Class A, District 7 runner-up Raceland.
